چکیده
The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activities selected medicinal plant practices by a traditional healer Newar community in Itum Bahal, Kathmandu, Nepal. methanolic extract (1 mg/disc) fifteen plants were screened against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Bacillus subtilis 6633) Gram-negative (Escherichia coli 25922 Salmonella typhi CCM 5445) using disc diffusion method. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) minimum bactericidal (MBC) calculated for different fractions (hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, acetone) having significant antimicrobial effect. Only Quercus infectoria G. Olivier (galls) Mallotus repandus (Willd.) Müll.Arg. (seeds) exhibited prominent effects. acetone fraction from Q. had strongest effect, with 41.00 mm inhibition zone S. aureus. In contrast, acetate M. highest efficacy, producing 29.00 typhi. similar manner, case infectoria, acetoe depicted lowest MIC (0.19 mg/mL) MBC (0.98 values aureus, whereas most significant, showing 0.25 0.53 mg/mL, respectively, This suggested that galls can be used as potential source bacteria, seeds could serve useful inhibit bacteria. Furthermore, extensive scientific investigation is mandatory ensure proper use folk medicines.
